The Cruise Industry

The cruise industry is young.

The cruise industry experience can deliver tremendous customer satisfaction, leading to significant opportunities for repeat business. Since 1970, an estimated 50 million passengers have taken a deep-water cruise [two or more days]. Seventy percent of bookings have been generated in the past five years alone. Cruises booked over this period average 2.4 per person – i.e. one cruise holiday every two years.

The cruise market potential is huge.

Over the next five years, the cumulative market potential for the cruise industry is over $100 billion dollars, including up to 12 million passengers per year. Taking a cruise is a dream for 60% of all adults, with the highest interest being expressed by baby boomers and senior citizens.

The cruise product is incredibly diversified. These days, there is a cruise vacation for just about anyone.

Over the past ten years, the industry has responded to extensive market and consumer research, which has guided the addition of new destinations, new ship concepts, new on-board/on-shore activities, new themes and new cruise lengths to reflect the changing vacation patterns of today’s travel consumer.

The cruise industry product delivers unparalleled customer satisfaction.

Whether the client is a frequent or first time cruiser, the cruise experience consistently exceeds expectations on a wide range of important vacation attributes, receiving top marks compared to other land-based vacation categories. The ongoing opportunity for our industry is to convert cruise prospects into new bookings.

Cruise travel has emerged in the business community.

Cruises represent an attractive and cost effective alternative to land-based settings, including incentives for meetings, conventions and other business functions. A single sale from a business customer can involve multiple bookings and sizable commissions.

Finally, the cruise industry has a very close working relationship with the travel
agency community.

Over 90% of all cruise passengers are booked through travel industry professionals. Cruises are profitable to organize. Some of the most successful and productive people in the business are those who place a premium offering on cruises.
